DESCRIPTION: Jason will talk about the process of set design that explores metaphorical, symbolic, expressionistic, or brain-spaces in which to tell a story. Project examples will include Good Grief (Vineyard Theatre), The Royale (Cleveland Play House), Next To Normal and Caroline Or Change (Tantrum Theatre). This 90 minute workshop will include a visual presentation of process from concept through design development and into production as well as a question and answer period.
BIO: Jason Ardizzone-West is an Emmy award winning set designer & production designer based in New York. Recent projects include BLUE MAN GROUP (National Tour), JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (NBC), BLISS (5th Ave Theatre), SCHOOL GIRLS, OR THE AFRICAN MEAN GIRLS (Berkely Rep), ONCE ON THIS ISLAND (Cincy Playhouse / Actor’s Theatre of Louisville), DERMOT KENNEDY (World Tour), LANA DEL REY (Arena Tour), UNCLE VANYA (Old Globe Theater / Hunter Theatre Project), GOOD GRIEF (The Vineyard Theatre), NATIVE GARDENS (The Cleveland Playhouse), CIRCUS - WANDERING CITY, ETHEL STRING QUARTET (BAM Next Wave Festival), NEXT TO NORMAL (Tantrum Theatre), THE MICHAELS, ILLYRIA, THE GABRIELS (The Public Theater), BULLETS OVER BROADWAY (National Tour), ADELE LIVE IN NYC (Radio City Music Hall, w/ Es Devlin). Prior to focusing on set design, Jason was an architect, working with Mitchell Kurtz Architect PC to design theater and cultural arts spaces including: PLAYWRIGHTS HORIZONS, THE CHAUTAUQUA INSTITUTION’S BRATTON THEATER, & EL TEATRO HECKSCHER. Jason received a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University, College of Architecture, Art & Planning, a Masters of Fine Arts from New York University, Department of Design for Stage & Film, and is a member of USA 829.
